Purpose of the role:

The Sales Manager is responsible for generating revenue by executing the sales strategy and overseeing the sales team, specifically targeting new customers in the food & beverage industries, where glass packaging is critical. The Sales Manager plays a crucial role in managing client relationships, identifying new sales opportunities, and ensuring the company meets sales and market share targets in South Africa and the Rest of Africa.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement sales strategies targeting key categories such as the food & beverage ) that rely on glass packaging and new markets.
  • Build and maintain relationships with major clients, distributors, and retailers.
  • Lead and manage the sales team to meet revenue and growth targets.
  • Ensure compliance with BBBEE policies, including leveraging opportunities for preferential procurement.
  • Using IMS tools collaborate with the production team to ensure the timely delivery of products to clients.
  • Monitor and analyse market trends to adjust sales tactics and identify new growth opportunities.
  • Prepare sales forecasts and financial reports for senior management.
  • Define the product strategy and roadmap for glass packaging, ensuring alignment with customer requirements and market trends.
  • Work closely with design, engineering, and production teams to oversee product development from concept to market launch.
  • Conduct market research to identify opportunities for product innovation (e.g., lightweight glass, eco-friendly packaging).
  • Ensure that products meet regulatory and environmental standards, such as those for food safety and sustainability.
  • Manage the entire product lifecycle, making decisions about product enhancements, pricing, and distribution strategies.
  • Collaborate with the operations team to gather customer feedback and refine product offerings.
  • Stay abreast of global packaging trends, such as sustainability and recycling regulations, to ensure the company’s product portfolio is competitive.

  • Ability to develop and execute sales strategies that align with business objectives, in key industries such as food & beverage categories,
  • Competency in analysing market trends, competitor strategies, and customer needs to create targeted sales plans
  • Strong skills in managing client relationships to maintain and grow customer loyalty.
  • Ability to understand and anticipate customer needs in terms of glass packaging specifications, quality, and sustainability.
  • Expertise in negotiating pricing, contracts, and service agreements with customers, ensuring that both revenue and profit margins are maximized.
  • Ability to close large deals with key players in industries that use glass packaging.
  • Competence in leading and motivating a sales team to achieve ambitious sales targets.
  • Ability to develop sales talent through coaching, training, and mentoring.
  • Proficiency in analysing sales data, market trends, and customer feedback to make informed decisions that improve sales performance.

 

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in sales and product development, preferably within the glass or manufacturing industry.
  • Proven success and experience in Project management. Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to motivate and inspire others.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in CRM software and data analysis tools.
