Purpose of the role:

 

The purpose of this role is to ensure the smooth operation and optimization of the processes involved in the, batch preparation and glass melting. Melting Process Engineer will be responsible for the operation, and optimization of glass melting processes within our production facilities. This role involves overseeing the entire batch preparation process, furnace operation, and glass melting to ensure product quality, energy efficiency, and adherence to environmental standards. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in glass manufacturing, with a focus on batch and furnace operations.

 

Key Performance Areas:

  • Batch Preparation: Develop and optimize batch formulations to achieve desired glass properties, ensuring consistency and quality in all production runs.
  • Furnace Operation: Monitor and manage the operation of glass furnaces, including temperature control, furnace atmosphere, and glass melting rates, to maximize efficiency and minimize defects.
  • Process Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to enhance product quality, reduce energy consumption, and extend furnace life.
  • Quality Control: Collaborate with quality assurance teams to ensure that glass products meet all relevant specifications and standards.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve issues related to batch preparation, furnace operation, and glass quality, working closely with maintenance and production teams to prevent and address downtime.
  • Data Analysis: Analyze production data to monitor process performance, identify trends, and recommend corrective actions as needed.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure compliance with all safety, health, and environmental regulations related to glass batch and furnace operations.
  • Training and Mentorship: Provide technical guidance and training to graduate, operators, and technicians in the batch and furnace areas.
  • Project Management: Lead or participate in projects aimed at upgrading furnace technology, improving batch processes, or developing new glass products.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of batch formulations, furnace operations, and process changes, ensuring that all documentation is up-to-date and accessible.

 

 

Qualifications & Experience:

 

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience: 5-10 years of experience in glass manufacturing, with a strong focus on batch preparation and furnace operations.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in glass chemistry, furnace operation, and process optimization.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyse data and make informed decisions.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including production, maintenance, quality, and R&D.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead projects, mentor junior staff, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
