Job Title: Engineering Manager
Grade: P6
Purpose of the Role:
Reporting to the Plant Manager, the role is accountable for leading the asset care function with a view to achieving required asset performance, and doing so cost effectively and with minimal risks. The incumbent will define the long-term strategy, plans and objectives and ensure that the required capacity, capability and resources are available to execute these plans safely and within legal requirements, while driving a culture of high performance and continuous improvement The successful candidate will have a demonstrable track record of leading engineering teams successfully and achieving anticipated asset care outcomes in a manufacturing environment

- Establish and implement asset care plans and budgets, including
- Annual asset care maintenance and improvement plans
- Long term asset management plans for key assets
- Annual opex and capex budgets
- Compile and update a 3 -5 year rolling capex budget
- Identify opportunities for reducing unnecessary costs
- Asset care KPIs and targets
- Establish asset care systems, policies, procedures, standards, facilities, tools and material
- Enforce the required quality standards to ensure precision asset care
- Conduct regular audits to ensure adherence to policies, procedures, and standards
- Ensure the adequacy of facilities for engineering teams to do their jobs
- Ensure that sufficient spares of the right quality are available for effective asset care
- Ensure compliance with EHS and other regulations and standards
- Ensure compliance with relevant internal policies and procedures
- Conduct regular audits to ensure compliance with regulations and standards
- Ensure that all statutory inspections are done on time and that the necessary records are kept
- Establish a safety culture within the organisation
- Identify and communicate other applicable regulations and standards
- Ensure that all systems and processes are aligned to regulations and standards
- Ensure that proper financial controls are in place according to internal finance and audit requirements
- Establish and implement asset care plans and budgets, including
- Manage and lead the engineering department
- Ensure that the engineering has a full complement of competent individuals across levels
- Clarify roles and responsibilities for the team in line with business requirements
- Implement performance management in line with the company process, including implementing actions to achieve targets and improve performance as necessary
- Coach and mentor direct reports to address capability and competence gaps
- Ensure that engineering people leaders coach and mentor their direct reports to address capability and competence gaps
- Determine engineering activities which should be outsourced, and develop a business case for management approval
- Drive continuous improvement
- Ensure asset reliability and performance, including improvement over time
- Monitor asset performance health from available data
- Compile a business case for asset replacement/upgrades based on LCC calculations
- Optimise spares holding to ensure availability of critical assets
- Support RCA and Defect Elimination and ensure follow through on actions
- Assess all asset related risks and provide technical input into the company’s risk register
- Management reporting in line with requirements
- Provide reports showing accurate feedback on engineering/technical performance, costs and risks
- Stakeholders’ liaison
- Liaise with appropriate internal stakeholders to advance the requirements of the engineering team and enable performance, e.g. production, EHS, procurement, finance, recruitment, training, etc.
- Liaise with engineering suppliers to optimise their performance
- Engage with regulators on compliance matters as necessary
Qualifications & Experience:
- Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent
- 8 years engineering experience
- 5 years project management experience
- 5 years maintenance management experience
- Manufacturing/heavy industry experience
- Glass manufacturing experience will be an advantage
- 5 years leadership experience
- GCC
