Job Title: E&I Engineer
Grade: PE07
Purpose of the role:
To manage, maintain and improve electrical and instrumentation systems across the plant where the primary goal is to ensure that electrical and control systems operate efficiently, safely, and in compliance with industry standards.
Key Performance Areas:
- Ensure smooth and efficient maintenance operations of E&I systems across the site.
- Ensure good maintenance standards are adhered to, to minimize cost and downtime.
- Ensure that instrumentation and electrical drawings are kept up to date.
- Ensure schedules and work orders are executed timeously.
- Conduct risk assessments and provide solutions to improve E&I system reliability.
- Drive continuous improvement of E&I systems through use of the IMS system and detailed RCA of breakdowns and through the implementation of sustainable countermeasures.
- Develop a standard for E&I systems on site to ensure all installations adhere to industry and company requirements.
- Perform troubleshooting, maintenance, and upgrades of electrical and control systems.
- Ensure compliance with relevant codes, regulations, and safety standards.
- Ensure compliance to modification control procedure and Management of Change processes (MOC).
- Supervise installations, commissioning, and testing of electrical and control systems.
- Identify and conduct training on SCADA, PLC and instrumentation systems that will enable engineering and operational personnel to optimize the use of such systems.
- Prepare CAPEX applications for improvement projects.
- Ensure a clean and organized work environment in line with 5S.
Stakeholder Relations
- Communicate with all relevant departments on issues of the area of specialty.
- Communicate with internal and/or external stakeholders, where required, to achieve work objectives and to maintain relationships.
- Liaise with OEM’s and field representatives to resolve plant/equipment malfunctions.
- Enforce corrective discipline where required within your team.
Safety, Health, Environmental, Quality and Risk Management
- Adhere to Health and Safety measures e.g., wearing safety and protective equipment and SHEQ system requirements.
- Comply with all applicable policies, procedures, and guidelines as well as all recommended safety procedures, standards, and practices to ensure efficient and uninterrupted plant operations.
- Identify, correct and/or report non-compliance.
- Identify unsafe practices and close out as per site requirements.
- Ensure reporting, investigation, documentation and action of incidents as per the plant standards.
- Adhere to permit to work and lockout procedure.

Knowledge of plant preventative maintenance strategies and implementation thereof
Understand how to read instrumentation and electrical drawings
Understanding of various types of instrumentation (flow, pressure, load cells, level) and controllers (PLC’s and SCADA systems)
Understanding of industrial network protocols
Qualifications & Experience:
B.SC. / B.Eng. electrical – NQF 7
3-5 years’ experience in Manufacturing
Minimum of 1-2 years team leadership/management
