Asset Care Specialist

Purpose of the Role:
An opportunity exists for an experienced engineer to join the technical team as an asset care specialist, responsible for improving the reliability of critical assets with a view to achieving high plant availability and utilisation in a cost-effective manner
The successful candidate will conduct rigorous and systematic data analysis, use technology and apply scientific processes to derive actionable insights to contribute to the achievement of agreed goals. This role will play an advisory and support role to the Head of Technical and the rest of the technical team

Key Performance Areas:

Establish the asset care function

  • Establish and implement reliability engineering standards, processes and procedures
  • Define reliability KPIs in conjunction with the Head of Technical, and benchmark performance targets
  • Implement reliability system and tools for data acquisition, analysis and reporting
  • Identify bottleneck assets
  • Determine asset failure probabilities, as well as asset failure consequences on safety, production and repair costs
  • Maintain asset criticality ratings and update all systems accordingly
  • Implement initiatives to drive awareness of reliability principles/practices and their benefits
  • Identify development gaps and recommend solutions to close them

Monitor Asset Condition

  • Perform routine and specific asset care assessments to determine critical health and performance of assets, and communicate findings to key stakeholders
  •  Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing and commissioning of new assets
  • Address problems with asset care program, and lead the implementation of corrective action
  •  Manage the required asset care systems, and ensure functional and data integrity
  • Review and interpret condition monitoring reports
  • Review and interpret asset performance and downtime data
  • Conduct Meantime Between Failure (MTBF) and Meantime To Repair (MTTR) calculations
  •  Recommend/implement improvements to prevent recurrence of problems
  • Manage Focused Improvement system to trigger problem solving
  • Manage Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to ensure improvements are implemented and sustained
  • Monitor Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to ensure optimum usage and data integrity
  • Monitor Spare Parts Management System for different sections to advice on minimum and maximum quantities based on criticality
  • Lead the implementation of Autonomous Activities for all equipment

Financial Control

  • Provide input into budget
  •  Control spend for area of responsibility and take corrective action as necessary
  • Consolidate and submit monthly, quarterly, biannual and ad hoc reports for different sections to meet stakeholder requirements
  • Extract cost information from EAMS to calculate life cycle costing (LCC)
  • Establish and maintain LCC reports
  • Ensure financial compliance

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science/Technology (Engineering), (NQF 7) or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years experience
  • Experience in manufacturing/heavy industry
  • Glass manufacturing experience will be an advantage

Capabilities & Attributes:

  • Strong working knowledge of CMMS
  • Computer literacy with advanced knowledge of MS Package and an organised self-starter
  • Good understanding of reliability engineering and asset management
  •  Project management experience
  •  Strong leadership, particularly self-leadership
  •  Analytical

  • Good communication (verbal and written)
  • Planning and prioritisation
  • Attention to detail
